PTC Inc. has announced the release of PTC Mathcad Gateway solution, which combines the power of PTC Mathcad Prime engineering mathematics software with the ability to access calculations anywhere, anytime from a wide variety of devices. The company describes the PTC Mathcad Gateway solution as providing engineering companies that have adopted standardized calculation best practices a methodology to distribute certified calculations to every user who needs the information but without exposing sensitive and valuable intellectual property (IP).

The platform-independent PTC Mathcad Gateway solution works by giving users the ability to access calculations and enter data into calculation forms using their Web browser. PTC Mathcad Gateway then returns results they need. Users never have direct access to IP underlying a company’s standardized and approved calculations, says PTC. Access to the methodologies and algorithms used for calculations is restricted to content administrators.

PTC Mathcad Gateway deploys on your company’s existing infrastructure, states PTC. The company adds that PTC Mathcad Gateway adheres to a company’s existing security models and authentication methods. Users do not need any additional software beyond a Web browser to access and use your PTC Mathcad Gateway’s calculations.

Web forms on PTC Mathcad Gateway were developed using Microsoft Visual Studio. Forms leverage a PTC Mathcad worksheet and communicate to the Web service over HTTP or HTTPS. PTC Mathcad Gateway was developed as a Microsoft Web Service hosted on an IIS (Internet Information Services) Web server from Microsoft.

“We are very pleased to launch PTC Mathcad Gateway,” said Brent Edmonds, senior director, PTC Mathcad in a statement to the press. “This release delivers a solution that allows companies to share vital engineering calculations and design intent across the business but with greater confidence that valuable IP is protected and used consistently. With PTC Mathcad Gateway we give users the ability to access calculations anywhere, anytime from a wide variety of devices using a secure math server that offers a universal, single point of access.”
