ACD Systems International Inc. has released the latest version of its Canvas application.

Canvas 12 is designed to allow professionals to facilitate collaboration between diverse departments on documents, images and data, improve productivity and accelerate technical illustration workflow.

New features in Canvas 12 include:

  * 3D View Tool: Users can place a 3D object into a Canvas document and visualize, annotate and embellish its different views without having to redraw the views in two dimensions. View and enhance AutoCAD DXF/DWG 3D object file formats by importing a 3D file. Canvas 12 integrates into AutoCAD 3D workflows.

* Geometric Import and Export: Import any object’s geometry and Canvas 12 automatically draws the object based on the specified coordinates. This makes it possible for users to easily create illustrations and graphics based on precise measurements. Specify and manipulate both the location and geometric dimensions of rectangles, ovals,  lines, polygons, beziers and arcs. View an object’s geometric properties in a spreadsheet-like grid. Import and export text file representations of objects.

* Symbol Pen: This feature helps eliminate the time-consuming task of aligning symbols along a path. Canvas 12 automatically generates lines made up of shapes or symbols.

The program also contains many other new capabilities. Canvas 12 is available for $599. Registered customers of previous versions can upgrade for $299.
