The ADS-939 sampling A/D converter (ADC) from C&D Technologies, Inc. (Milton Keynes, England) is a fully integrated data acquisition (DA) system that gives true 16-bit resolution performance at a 10MHz sampling rate over the entire operating temperature range.
The functionally complete design requires no external components and is housed in a small, high reliability, hermetically sealed, 40-pin ceramic TDIP. Typical applications include medical imaging, radar, sonar, communications and instrumentation.
The ADS-939 is ideal for use in both time and frequency domain applications. It accurately samples full-scale input signals with no missing codes up to Nyquist frequencies and across the full operating temperature range. The dynamic performance of the new device has been optimized to give a high signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of 82dB and total harmonic distortion (THD) of -86dB at Nyquist input frequency.
The specification of the ADS-939 includes a fast-setting sample-hold amplifier, a sub-ranging A/D converter, an internal reference, timing/control logic, and error-correction circuitry. Digital input and output levels are TTL. Able to operate from a ±5V, ±12V or ±15V supply, the ADS-939 dissipates 1.5 Watts and is offered with a bipolar (±2.75V) or a unipolar (0V to -5.5V) analog input range.
