Altium Announces PCB Design Tool

The platform is integrated with SolidWorks, enabling a link between electrical and mechanical workflows.

Altium, a provider of electronic design automation platforms, has released PCBWorks, a new PCB (printed circuit board) design tool. The software is intended to bridge the gap between electrical and mechanical workflows.

PCBWorks has a set of schematic capture and PCB layout tools that are paired with mechanical workflows from SolidWorks. With these workflows, design teams can change component placement, board shapes and mounting holes of PCBs in SolidWorks without interrupting mechanical designs.

The platform also manages ECOs (engineering change orders) changes in design data from SolidWorks to to PCBWorks with native SolidWorks files.

“Collaboration issues between ECAD and MCAD workflows have always been a thorn in the side of engineering teams,” said Jason Hingston, CTO at Altium. “PCBWorks dramatically shifts the landscape of how electronic and mechanical engineers work together, making the design process virtually seamless between ECAD and MCAD teams.”
