Bonal’s Meta-Lax Technology for Eco-friendliness

Manufacturers seeking ways to become more eco-friendly should consider Bonal Technologies Inc.‘s (Royal Oak, MI) Meta-LaxR Stress Relief technology. A Department of Energy Tech Brief states that "Meta-Lax is a proven substitute for 80-90% of heat treatment stress relief in metalworking applications."

Bonal says companies can reduce 98 percent of its energy use to get the same results according to the U.S. Department of Energy, using Meta-Lax stress relief instead of thermal stress relief (heat treat).

Companies can eliminate the need to transport parts to and from the heat treater by using Meta-Lax in its manufacturing facility. Work pieces have a longer service life (up to 400 percent) by using Meta-Lax processing. The improved quality reduces maintenance and less replacement saves large amounts of energy and other natural resources. And last, improve miles per gallon (MPG) — a stress-relieved engine is a more efficient engine.

Since the Meta-LaxR Stress Relief technology was first commercialized in 1989, Bonal has tracked energy savings — in comparison to the numbers identified from the 1997 U.S. Department of Energy’s IMPACTS booklet, Bonal estimates Meta-Lax stress relieving has saved 293.3 trillion BTUs; saved the equivalent of 50.6 million barrels of oil; and, reduced air pollutants equivalent to the output of 6.1 million automobiles.
