Cathay Pacific Chooses Astronics Corporation’s Aircraft Interface Device for eEnabled Aircraft Program

The device has an embedded microprocessor, high I/O density and internal PMC slot.

Astronics Corporation, a provider of advanced technologies for the aerospace and defense industries, has announced that its subsidiary Ballard Technology Inc. is now a technology parter with Cathay Pacific Airways. The company will supply the Aircraft Interface Device (AID) for the new eEnabled Aircraft Program.

In the industry, Aircraft Interface Devices help connect electronic flight bag (EFB) and in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) systems with avionics data. The eEnabled Aircraft solution is a system for connectivity and integration with ground systems. According to the company, it provides a comprehensive electronic information exchange, which will replace current manual processes to record, manage and distribute informations for flight operations. The AID features an embedded microprocessor, high I/O density and an internal PMC slot for functionality.

“We enhanced our Aircraft Interface Device to include our Ethernet Switch Module, which allowed the unit to satisfy two of Cathay Pacific’s key system requirements in a single package. We believe this adds significant value to the eEnabled Aircraft Program by simplifying deployment and reducing system size, weight, and power consumption,” said Peter J. Gundermann, President and CEO of Astronics Corporation.
