CCAT Announces Installation of 3D Multi-Material Printer

The printer from 3D Systems will help clients develop prototypes as well as create over-molded parts and multi-material assemblies.

The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT) Advanced Manufacturing Center has expanded its additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities with the installation of the ProJet 5500X.

the ProJet is a multi-material printer from 3D Systems, and has a build envelope of 21 x 15 x 12 inches. It can be used to print fixtures, over-molded parts, multi-material assemblies rubber-like components and prototypes.

“With the ProJet 5500X our customers will be able to print finely detailed, ultra high resolution parts with varying degrees of flexibility, and material transparency all from one machine,” says Bob Torrani, director CCAT Advanced Manufacturing Center. “Parts made on the printer will have features and functionality never before possible.”
