CD-adapco Updates STAR-CD, es-ice

Enhancements include more robust automatic meshing and post-processing capabilities.

CD-adapco, a provider of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) CAE software, has released STAR-CD and es-ice version 4.24. This release, according to the company, advances its mission to help customers automate and complete internal combustion engine (ICE) simulations faster.

Version 4.24 includes refined combustion models, updated automatic meshing processes and es-ice post-processing capabilities. There is also a pre-release of CD-adapco’s fully automatic meshing technology for full-cycle calculations of 4-stroke gas and diesel engines.

This automatic meshing technology, a company press release states, lets users generate fully geometry meshes for cycle calculations. The mesh structure has prism layers at the boundary to capture near-wall gradients, an aligned mesh within the valve gap and a hexahedral mesh within the core of the model. Automation is used to minimize mesh generation time and let the user have more control over the mesh size.

“This version demonstrates CD-adapco’s continued commitment to the IC Engine sector with the pre-release of a significant automated meshing technology and refinements to the existing ICE combustion models in STAR-CD,” said Richard Johns, vice president of IC Engines at CD-adapco. “Users can now experience the new mesh motion approaches demonstrating CD-adapco’s commitment to continue to lead this field of simulation.”
