College Choice Delivers 2017 Rankings for Engineering Degrees

The College Choice ranking seeks to help prospective software engineering students decide which schools fit their educational and professional interests.

College Choice, an organization that provides college and university rankings and resources, has published a ranking of the 20 Best Bachelors in Software Engineering Degrees for 2017. The ranking finds Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the top spot, San Jose State University is in second, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering rounds out the top three.

Software engineers are on the front lines of the American economy, and in the next few years, the employment of software engineers is projected to increase by 22%. Colleges and universities that invest in their software engineering programs have an opportunity to make a large impact on the future of the American economy.

The College Choice ranking seeks to help prospective software engineering students decide which schools fit their educational and professional interests, as well as which are feasible for their financial situation.

“Software engineers will make, on average, an annual salary of $100,690, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,” said Christian Amondson, managing editor of College Choice. “And these numbers reflect just those engineers who have a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Both employment rate and salary go up exponentially for those with advanced degrees.”

To create this ranking, College Choice said it collated and compared the academic reputation, student satisfaction, affordability and average annual salary of early career software engineering from software engineering programs across the country.

The entire ranking, listed in alphabetical order, is as follows:

  • Auburn University
  • BYU - Idaho
  • Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
