To be launched at the IJL 2008 exhibition to be held in London from 31st August to 3rd September, are two new offerings from Delcam  for the jewelry market, a rapid prototyping bureau service, rp.delcam.com, and its latest CADCAM software ArtCAM JewelSmith 2009.

ArtCAM JewelSmith makes it possible for jewelers to design and manufacture intricate, bespoke jewelry or complete new ranges with ease. Jewelers can scan or import their work directly into the software from drawings, hand sculptured 3D models or from CAD packages, or they can create their designs directly in ArtCAM JewelSmith.

ArtCAM maintains a structure similar to that of Adobe PhotoShop in which the jeweler can utilize a number of layers to change elements of their design, or to form intricate and complex patterns. ArtCAM’s “Project Tree” can keep all related models together for quick reference so that designers can create matching jewelry pieces and duplicate design elements as they need to.

Gems can be incorporated into the design by taking the dimensions of both calibrated and un-calibrated gems and making caps to hold them securely in place. JewelSmith 2009 also makes it possible for hand engravers to use a Wacom tablet.

ArtCAM also has a 3D PDF Viewer for customers who want to view models for approval. When the design process is complete, integrated machining wizards inside ArtCAM JewelSmith set machine toolpaths or provide output files for CNC machining or rapid prototyping. For processes involving more than one material the product can divide the design into separate files for manufacturing.

Delcam will also be launching its rapid prototyping service at IJL. In addition, Delcam’s FTP site is available for quick quoting and production, and for those who want to make 3D models to use in the lost wax casting process. Also the bureau service supplies castable wax/resins within 48 hours to companies to use either their own casting process or to supply to a third party casting company.
