Delcam Launches FeatureCAM 2015

Upgrades to the platform allow easier programming of parts and milling enhancements.

Delcam has released the 2015 version of its FeatureCAM system. The updated software has a range of improvements in three-axis milling, two- and five-axis drilling, turning and turn-mill and wire EDM (electrical discharge machining), to make the software easier to use and more efficient.

FeatureCAM 2015 has made programming complex parts easier with the addition of automatic collision checking of the tool shank and holder, for both three-axis roughing and finishing tool paths. The user can stop the simulation immediately when a gouge is detected, and recalculate the tool path with any segments that will cause a gouge removed.

A Maximum Machine Stock feature has been added, which removes direct moves where clipping has occurred. Users can also use three-axis machining stock models in conjunction with other geometry. This includes part surface dimensions, solid models, stock dimensions and boundary curves.

The platform also provides full-machine simulation and post-processing for the rotating sub-spindle on the Mori Seiki NTX1000 turn-mill.

For wire EDM, FeatureCAM 2015 has an expanded wire-cut database to support multiple machines with varying formats and methods of operation, the ability to specify nozzle type and fluid type and material type and thickness.
