In response to market demand for a mid-sized programmable LCD for embedded applications, EarthLCD (San Juan Capistrano, CA) introduced the ezLCD 8-inch intelligent color TFT LCD Module. Offering all the features of the company’s ezLCD-101 Model, the new ezLCD-105-EDK 8-inch incorporates built-in intelligence and quick connectivity that provides virtually instant GUI interface.

The device’s ability for turnkey GUI integration is made possible through the integral processor and LCD controller. Following quick connectivity via serial, USB, RS-232, or SD/MMC, I2C communication port,  customized bitmap images, fonts, and icons can be quickly uploaded and controlled with a microcontroller or PC.

With most of the electronic graphical components incorporated directly into the LCD, fewer components need to be purchased and stocked by the OEM or manufacturer, enabling the design engineer to concentrate on customizing the graphics to meet the intricacies of the product, rather than spending time creating complex graphical hardware and software.

With its 8-in. color 800x600 TFT display, designers can fully optimize color capabilities to provide cutting-edge competition with emerging technologies. The device includes integrated touchscreen, 220 Nits LED LCD (Cd/M2), USB 2.0, true RS-232 with + 12 Volt supply voltage, and RoHS compliance. Other features include S.D. flash card for graphics expansion, OEM data storage, and logging capabilities.

In addition to being integrated into new products, the ezLCD module makes it easy to add a GUI or status display to existing embedded products with very little change to the base system. The ezLCD Module can run as a stand alone unit for use as a bitmap slideshow or remain connected to a PC as an “intelligent display” for live data feeds.
