With today being Earth Day, let us raise a toast to the olden days when there was paper in the office. I know that it is hard for you young’ens to imagine that since you live and work in a paperless office. OK. Yeah, that was stupid. The fact is we’re flooded with paper as much as ever, and we need to accurately scan in technical documents—CAD drawings, engineering schematics, whatever—all the time, often running up a tab at some service bureau to do it. The problem has been that wide-format scanners have been too expensive for small- and mid-sized outfits or, if affordable, not particularly nimble. The new Océ CS4300 series addresses that by offering high-quality machines with professional features at price points that work for small- and mid-sized companies.
The Océ CS4300 series has four models that can scan in full color, 8-bit color, gray scale, or monochrome documents from 36, 42, and 54 in. wide. The full-color scanning speeds go up to 7.4 feet per minute, depending upon model. Resolution is 600 x 600 dpi with an optional interpolated resolution of up to 9600 dpi. The scanners can handle items that are up to 0.6-in. thick, by the way.
All CS4300 series scanners come with Océ‘s Copy Easy software, which aims to take as many headaches out of scanning operations as possible. And if you have an Océ printer, the software lets you link it with your CS4300 and turn it all into a scan-to-print system.
Since this is Earth Day, let me mention that the CS4300 has a power-saving automatic sleep mode and settable power up/down modes. They comply with RoHS directives for lead content and are designed and manufactured in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
Océ CS4300 scanner series pricing starts at $11,600 for a 36-in. 600 x 600 dpi model. The top end is $28,600.
