USB converterElectro Standards Laboratories (ESL), has announced the Model 4176 USB to RS485/422/232 interface converter. With its integrated rate buffering, the Model 4176 converts USB 2.0 compliant data from a standard PC to a serial asynchronous data interface over RS232 or RS485/422 networks.

The baud rate is user selectable with operating speeds up to 1.5 Mbps for RS232 and up to 3 Mbps for RS485/422. The converter operates from -40 °C to +85 °C, according to the company, and features ESD protection circuitry on the USB I/O connector and all receivers and transmitters for the RS232 and RS485/422 interfaces.

Typical applications for the M4176 include USB PC to PC long distance communications, factory automation, multi-drop data collection devices, barcode readers, time clocks, scales, data entry terminals, ATMs and serial communications in harsh environments. This unit provides an industrial solution for applications requiring single point-to-point or multi-point communication links over short or long distances.

This desktop converter can be ordered with the USB I/O connector on the front or back of the unit.
