FEA-Opt Technology (Chu-Nan, Miaoli, Taiwan) released SmartDO 2.0, adding a new Global OptimizationSolver — The Smart Particle Swarm, which is a solver with the benefits of boththe Robust Genetic Algorithms and the Gradient-Based approaches. While it startsthe global optimization with multiple initial design points, each individualdesign (which is called the “particle”) will exchange design history and"experience” with each other. The unique feature is said to be the calculationof the new search direction is a semi-gradient approach.
