FLSmidth Invests in EDEM Software

To simulate bulk handling and production processes during the design stage of product development and general research, DEM Solutions (Edinburgh, Scotland)  announced that FLSmidth (Copenhagen,  Denmark), a global player in cement and minerals technology, has invested in EDEM’s discrete element modeling (DEM) software and services.

FLSmidth, founded 126 years ago, supplies process design and equipment for all materials handling applications for the cement and minerals industry as well as the pulp and paper, fertilizer, and related industries. The deployment of EDEM as part of the company’s design process is expected to offer solutions tailored to customers’ needs, shorten development schedules, improve operational efficiency, and retain technological advantage.

DEM Solutions partners with its customers to improve products and processes by simulating and analyzing operations at the particle scale. EDEM helps reduce the number of physical prototypes and tests required to get a product to market or a process on-stream. It troubleshoots difficult particulate processes and, because it is physics-based, can improve understanding of system fundamentals leading to better product and process design and innovation.
