Galloway Plastics Offers Direct Metal Laser Sintering System from EOS

EOS GmbH Electro Optical Systems announced that Galloway Plastics Inc. (GPI) is using an EOSINT M 270 direct metal lasersintering (DMLS) system to further expand GPI Prototype and GPIAnatomicals.

A service bureau, GPI Prototype sees theEOSINT M 270 as a way to broaden its in-house offerings. GPI Anatomicals, amanufacturer of anatomical/medical device models, plans to implement the M 270to expand its core orthopaedic device capabilities, making it possible tomanufacture parts not possible with other manufacturingprocesses.

DMLS is an additive manufacturing processon the EOSINT M 270. A CAD file defines each layer of a cross-sectioned modeland 20 to 40 µm thin layers of metal powder are deposited onto a build platform, then laser sintered by a focused laser beam. Once this is accomplished, theplatform is then lowered and the process repeated layer-by-layer until a 3Dmetal part results. Within a relatively short time, DMLS can build parts formass customization and for intricate shapes. It is suitable for orthopaedic, device implant, and aerospace markets.
