Haas Automation, Inc. (Oxnard, CA), expands its line of 5-axis machines with the VF-2TR trunnion machining center, a compact VMC equipped with a factory-installed dual-axis trunnion table that provides full 5-axis capabilities for machining complex multi-sided parts in a single setup, thus reducing setup time and increasing part accuracy.

Based on the shop-proven Haas VF-2, with 30-in. x 16-in. x 20-in. travels, 40-taper spindle and 20hp vector dual-drive system, the VF-2TR features a Haas TR160 dual-axis trunnion table mounted to the standard T-slot table to provide 5-axis simultaneous motion or position a workpiece to nearly any angle for machining. The trunnion provides ±120 degrees of tilt on the A axis and a full 360 degrees of continuous rotation on the B axis. It can accommodate parts with a swing up to 17.5-in. and weighing up to 80 lbs. (part and fixture). The trunnion’s 160mm platter features six precision T-slots equally spaced at 60 degrees for easy fixturing.

The TR160 can be removed from the VF-2TR when only 3-axis machining is required; the machine’s standard 36-in. x 14-in. T-slot table provides plenty of room for fixtures and vises. Precision mounting keys make reinstalling and aligning the trunnion easy.

The VF-2TR comes standard with a 24-pocket side-mount tool changer, automatic chip auger,  programmable coolant nozzle, Visual Quick Code programming system, 15-in. color LCD monitor with USB port, 16MB of program memory, remote jog handle, spindle orientation, coordinate rotation and scaling, user-definable macros, and high-speed machining control software with full look-ahead. Such high-productivity options as high-speed spindles, through-spindle coolant, linear scales,  high-speed rapids, and a wireless intuitive probing system are also available.

For larger work, Haas also offers the VF-5TR and VF-6TR, which have a dual-axis trunnion table mounted directly to the bearing trucks in place of the standard T-slot table, and are available in either 40- or 50-taper configurations.
