IMSI/Design (Novato, CA) is shipping IDX Variable Constraint System (VCS), its first variational sketching plug-in for AutoCAD, which provides designers and engineers with greater control over designs while operating seamlessly in AutoCAD.
The IDX VCS enables geometric or dimensional constraints to be applied that control relationships between drawn objects. Those relationships can be parametrically driven and include values, variables, or mathematical formulas in relation to other variables.
IDX VCS ($499) incorporates the D-Cubed 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager from Siemens PLM Software. (This is the same core engine typically available in more expensive parametric modeling programs including Autodesk Inventor, CATIA and SolidWorks by Dassault Systems, or Solid Edge by Siemens PLM Software, says the company.
The IDX VCS — which enables sketching and drafting productivity, variational sketching with revision productivity, capturing design intent for creating intelligent behavior, drawing profiles for 3D extrusions, and developing entire part families — is available for AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD 2008 base editions.
IDX VCS is available, along with a trial version, from IMSI/Design.
