Microsoft Corp. of Redmond, WA, (www.microsoft.com) has made a lot of headway in high-performance computing (HPC). Some of this is around Cluster Server, which stitches together multiple Windows servers. The next release does away with the cluster moniker, and changes the name to the more generic HPC Server 2008. Now in beta and due next year, the new software improves support of high-speed networking and has added service-oriented architecture (SOA) hooks.
You can get more details and the beta here.
