Kontron (Poway, CA) and Astute Networks, Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced the availability of the market’s first fully integrated AdvancedTCA bladed server-storage solution for Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) to design edge-level content delivery solutions.

Pre-tested and validated, this commercial-off-the-shelf 2U, 2-slot AdvancedTCA platform provides NEPs with new high performance, lower-cost system design opportunities to keep pace with the increasing carrier and consumer demands for social networking, IPTV, and Video on Demand (VoD) content delivery applications. This partnership brings to market a standards-based iSCI over Ethernet server-storage platform that eliminates the need for complex proprietary Fiber Channel storage servers.

Demand for network storage will be triple current storage capacities, states the release, with the market trend for even more content to move from local to network storage, such as for social networking applications.

Also, Astute Networks announced it joined with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) to provide the first integrated ATCA server/storage solution using MySQL, the first high-performance bladed storage solution for the ATCA market, the Astute Networks Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade. Sun Microsystems and Astute Networks are demonstrating a high performance, highly scalable ATCA platform at the NXTcomm 2008 show in Las Vegas.

In more recent announcement, Kontron and NEi (Westminster, CA) agreed to co-develop and market highly integrated AdvancedTCA platforms designed to expand customer choice and accelerate time to market. NEI will use Kontron’s selection of GbE/10GbE AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMC products to expand its best-in-class approach to integrating solutions that match application requirements.
