Kontron Releases New VPX Board

The device is based on Intel Xeon-D processor architecture.

Kontron, a provider of embedded computer technology, has successfully designed and tested the 3U VPX board, which is based on the Intel Xeon-D processor.

The VX3085 board has dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express 3.0 and DDR4 memory. It is suited for harsh environments and optimized for size, weight, power and cost, the company states. It also has two GBASE-KR ports, eight PCIe slots and options for graphics, XMC, M.2 and I/O.

Additionally, the board has options for health management, sequenced system power up, Temperature/Power/Performance management and Power-On Built-In Test.

“Kontron’s successful integration of this type of server-class CPU in a power envelope compatible with harsh environmental conditions signals the advent of a new era of powerful rugged parallel servers. Now system designers can solve with a single architecture a very diverse set of computing problems such as sensor processing in radar and sonar applications, massive parallel computing for cyber security and data analytics and IT server consolidation through virtualization,” said Vincent Chuffart, product portfolio manager for Kontron. “This marks truly disruptive technology that helps define systems of systems in the defense domain aligning with requests of many of our strategic customers. The VX3058 enables developers to offer versatile solutions based on a limited set of computer building blocks, thereby reducing costs while accelerating time to deployment.”
