CD-adapcoCD-adapco’s STAR-CD is designed to increase the potential for innovation through the addition and improvement of physical modeling capabilities, and reduce the time and cost of simulation with the introduction of new automation capabilities.

Physical modeling capabilities have been enhanced to provide:

  • Furtherimprovement and new options and capabilities for the G-equation combustionmodel.
  • A newactive mode option for DARS-Knock for both ECFM-3Z and G-Equation.
  • Furthervalidation and consolidation of other existing ICE related spray, combustion and emission models.
  •

Ongoing improvements to trimming, smoothing and prism layer technology have also been made, which the company says leads to better quality meshes and increased solver robustness. The toolkit now offers better quality prism layer meshing next to walls and local mesh refinement for trimmed ICE meshes, according to the company.

Ongoing improvement to 2D template generation are designed to improve the 2D uniformity and local mesh refinement in strategic areas of the engine is available to further help ease-of use and mesh quality, including automatic valve feature capturing.

Mesh replacement and solution mapping for moving mesh ICE applications has been further enhanced with a more streamlined and clear setup process. The mesh-to-mesh mapping capability now covers all ICE related combustion and emission capabilities and has also been improved for further mapping accuracy, according to the company.

Documentation has also been improved with a new best practices document to help setup and run ICE simulations. A set of new tutorials covers more advanced multiple cycle and cylinder simulations.
