LMS Imagine.Lab 14 Released

Range of enhancements aim to make user experience smooth through all design cycle phases.

Siemens PLM Software Inc. has released version 14 of its LMS Imagine.Lab mechatronic simulation platform for model-based systems engineering. Imagine.Lab 14, says the company, incorporates a range of enhancements such as methodology guides, process-related features, controls validation capabilities and CPU time reduction intended to ensure a smooth user experience through all phases of the design cycle.

The LMS Imagine.Lab platform provides an open development approach starting from functional modeling to detailed design. The platform offers tools to manage architecture description and configuration in model-based systems engineering. Siemens PLM Software says that many enhanced components and models in LMS Imagine.Lab 14 ensure better scalability and simulation accuracy.

For model accuracy, the platform includes 3D mechanical junctions for real-time simulations, pre-calibrated lithium-ion nickel cobalt aluminum battery models, and a GUI for finite element modeling software. Additionally, users can model gas transport in liquid systems and condensate droplet transport in gases.

LMS Imagine.Lab has three modules: LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim platform for multi-domain mechatronic system simulation, LMS Imagine.Lab Sysdm for model and data management and LMS Imagine.Lab System Synthesis software for configuration management, system integration and system architecture management.

The LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim simulation platform provides solver and numerical capabilities with an enhanced performance analyzer, multithreading capabilities for 1D CFD (computational fluid dynamics) models and algebraic loop highlighting. Version 14 brings new functionalities for model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulations, according to the company. The LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim 14 supports the FMI 2.0 (Functional Mock-up Interface 2.0) co-simulation master and provides improved Modelica event handling. It also comes with CAD file import/export capabilities plus enhanced app and state chart designers.

Version 14 of Imagine.Lab Sysdm creates a direct link to Siemens’s Teamcenter PLM (product lifecycle management) application. With system simulation integrated under PLM, explains Siemens PLM Software, users can take into account daily versioning and branching. This version also has embedded architecture-driven design capabilities that allowing users to design and configure a reference architecture with models from the repository. Users can also create tool-neutral reference architectures.

For the automotive and ground transport industries, Imagine.Lab 14 has capabilities for engine map creation from public data, automatic calibration of combustion models and analysis of tire behavior on soft soil. Additionally, there are functionalities for valve definition and parameterization of any after-treatment system and a GUI for gear parameterization.

For aircraft fuel systems, LMS Imagine.Lab provides a 3D modeling assistant that allows engineers to create a 3D scene with bi-directional parameter updates. With version 14, users can now account for altitude and acceleration variations when sizing fluid pipes. New jet engine models, says Siemens PLM Software, enable fuel consumption analysis as well as thermodynamic analysis for propulsion system pre-design at aircraft-level, while taking into account various flight missions. The propeller performance map generator is said to help engineers design propeller propulsion systems accurately.
