Maplesoft (Waterloo, Canada), provider of high-performance software tools for engineering, science, and mathematics, released the next Maplesoft-MAA Placement Test Suite (PTS).

PTS, a collection of placement tests developed by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), is administered via Maple T.A., a Web-based system that automatically assesses student responses and performance in science, engineering, and math.

Highlights of PTS 3.0 include the availability of the MAA calculator-based tests, which contain problems similar to those seen in typical classrooms where calculator use is encouraged. Improvements to infrastructure provide more options for analyzing test results and providing feedback to students. These include scores for individual questions, grade reports on groups of questions, and customized feedback for students. The latest version offers improved delivery, analysis, and administration of placement tests, which help universities place their students in the right level of courses.

Pricing is based on a per student fee. More than 90 percent of advanced research institutions and universities worldwide, including MIT, Stanford, Oxford, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy, have adopted Maplesoft solutions to enhance their education and research activities.
