Mathematica Player Pro Delivers and 6.0.2 Arrives

Wolfram Research (Champaign, IL) announced that Mathematica Player Pro introduced a new application-delivery system for Mathematica. Users can create interactive solutions in Mathematica — featuring interactivity, real-time data, 2D/3D visualizations, and more — and immediately deploy them as standalone applications.

Plus, an update to Mathematica 6, which was launched in the middle of last year by Wolfram, is named Mathematica 6.0.2, and is accompanied by gridMathematica 2.2.1 and Mathematica Personal Grid Edition 6.0.2, according to a blog on the company website.

All updates offer the new Virtual Book documentation system and Function Navigator, as well as a new coordinate-picking tool and other performance and functionality improvements. Plus, registered users with Premier Service can receive free updates.

According to Wolfram’s blog on the subject, 6.0.2 is about adding, smoothing, and rounding out features in Mathematica 6.0.0. One change in 6.0.2 is in the Documentation Center, which offers two new elements: the Function Navigator, which is a complete hierarchical tool for navigating all 2500+ functions of Mathematica, and the and the Virtual Book, which starts from the full text of Stephen Wolfram’s <i>The Mathematica Book</i>, then adds new and more advanced documentation.

In interactive graphics, the blog goes on to say, the Drawing Tools palette is updated, adding a coordinate-picking tool for digitizing graphics. Fine-tuning its low-level software infrastructure allowed the company to improve (sometimes a factor of 50) speed for various forms of Import and Export. This affects binary files on all platforms, as well as graphics formats on Mac and Unix platforms.

Wolfram is also offering free online seminars on such topics as Applied Parallel Computation with gridMathematica, What’s New in Mathematica 6, Creating Demonstrations, A Technical Overview of Mathematica, College Calculus with Mathematica, Senior Developer Q&A featuring John Fultz, Manager of User Interface Technology, Mathematica Player and Player Pro, A Technical Overview of Mathematica, Introduction to Visualization with Mathematica 6, Import and Export Data Formats in Mathematica 6, to name a few.
