Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA)announced RACE ++ Series PowerPC 7448 Multicomputer, a high-performance, drop-inproduct upgrade that adds significant improvements in processor speed, L2 cachesize, and application performance over previous RACE++ products built on thePowerPC 7447A processor.

The newPowerPC 7448 Multicomputer comprises a Mercury MCJ6 motherboard and two fasterdaughtercards that interface directly with the RACE++ switch fabric. Bymaintaining commonality with previous RACE++ Series PowerPC products, Mercuryprovides an easy upgrade path for existing system designs.

The MercuryRACE++ Series interconnect fabric represents the most robust and proven approachfor multicomputer digital signal processing, and allows integrators the optionto increase application performance while preserving their investment in theexisting system chassis, hardware, and software — thus providing savings indevelopment costs.

The twodaughtercards on the RACE++ Series PowerPC 7448 Multicomputer combine two1.06GHz MPC7448 processors with AltiVec technology to address today’spower-sensitive legacy upgrade market. The low-power version of the PowerPC 7448enables a RACE++ product upgrade that has less power dissipation than theprevious generation.
