NEi Software (Westminster, CA) has introduced NEi Nastran in-CAD 2011, an FEA (finite element analysis) solution delivered in a 3D environment. With NEi Nastran in-CAD, product design teams can perform FEA pre-processing, analysis, and post-processing within the same CAD associative environment.

NEi Nastran in-CAD combines an FEM (finite element method) modeler with pre- and post-processing capabilities and Nastran solvers. Parts and assemblies can be analyzed for a range of static, dynamic, and thermal loading, according to the company. NEi Nastran in-CAD features geometry associativity, composite elements, custom coordinate systems, and nonlinear analyses for plasticity and true surface-to-surface contact.

CAD capabilities include feature history with flexible design intent; 3D dynamic modeling, mixed feature based and direct editing design; integrated sketching with dynamic optional constraints; advanced modeling settings connected to features; and dual kernel support and kernel collaboration (ACIS and Parasolid). CAD interoperability features include native file translators to and from nearly all mechanical CAD systems and formats such as Autodesk Inventor, CATIA V4 and V5, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, IGES, STEP, and 3D PDF.

Analysis capabilities include a range of analysis methods such as linear statics, steady state heat transfer, normal modes, buckling, pre-stress, dynamics, and nonlinear. Additionally, NEi Nastran in-CAD supports assembly analysis, composite materials, surface contact, optimization, and drop testing. The software offers the ability to output to a Nastran Bulk Data File

“NEi Nastran in-CAD enables companies to meet ROI ]return on investment] and market objectives,” said Philip Potasiak, president of NEi Software, in a press statement. “As the product design supply chain grows in complexity, companies look for affordable solutions that reduce design time and provide flexible post-processing capabilities. We believe this product addresses these objectives.”
