Appro of Milpitas, CA began 27 years ago with a mission to build rackmount computers. In early 2000 the company went after HPC, and now is sitting on top of a full-fledged Linux supercomputer.
The new unit is the Appro Xtreme-X2, powered by Quadcore AMD Opteron’s, and able to handle up to 4 terabytes of RAM per rack.
One selling point is management, of which there are several modules. Admins can manage clusters, resources and fabrics, and do so remotely. This is definitely a company to watch.
