October8, 2007 — ANSYS, Inc. (Lebanon, NH) released thelatest version of FLUENT for CATIA V5 3.1, which offers improvements to theFLUENT for CATIA V5 rapid flow modeling tool that is fully embedded intoDassault System’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). It allows design andprocess engineers working under CATIA V5 to rapidly and accurately validatetheir designs much earlier in the product development cycle.

FLUENT forCATIA V5 makes use of a high level of automation combined with integration intoCATIA V5. Tasks that conventionally require a lot of manual intervention, including meshing, solution steering and reporting, are performed automaticallyby FLUENT for CATIA V5. With full upward compatibility to FLUENT 6.3, FLUENTfor CATIA V5 permits design engineers to handle more CFD analyses.

Features inVersion 3.1 improve user scenarios at all stages of the simulation process, both in reducing time to solution and making CFD available for all through easeof use and tight integration into the PLM.

Some of theimprovements made in Version 3.1 are the extension of the automated flow volumeextraction algorithm to thick models, providing a higher level of automationand quicker set-up in many more cases; prism layer creation optimizationenabling an improved mesh quality and reduced mesh count for faster and moreaccurate results; and more solution and modeling control so companies candeploy or create a proven CFD workflow into the CATIA V5 PLM.

Otherimprovements pertaining to customization, postprocessing, and reportingincluded in Fluent for CATIA V5 3.1 include streamlined advanced CADassociativity scenarios including activating or deactivating parts, replacingparts in assemblies, and support of topological changes.
