NextComputing (Nashua, NH) announced the integration of a Panasonic recordable Blu-Ray drive on its mobile workstations. The optical drive is available in place of the internal DVD drive on all mobile computer models, the NextDimension Pro and Pro HD, NextDimension Evo and Evo HD, Vigor Pro SD, and the Vigor Evo HD.

The Blu-Ray format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, offering more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and holding up to 50GB on a dual-layer disc.

All of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate,  Universal, and MGM) have released movies in the Blu-Ray format. With the adoption of Blu-Ray, NextComputing says it is demonstrating readiness for the evolution of digital media in any form. The NextDimension Series is lightweight, reliable, and easy to use; hard disk brackets for drive security and easy swapping; latest in dual- and quad-core processing from AMD and Intel;  and its modular, open standards design makes upgrading easy and affordable.
