Turnkey Modservice allows customers to convert an existing MacBook into a Modbook

Other World Computing (OWC; Woodstock, IL)  announced Modservice, its new service that converts an existing Intel Core 2 Duo based MacBook computer into an Axiotron Modbook, a Mac-based tablet computer that lets users draw and write directly on the screen. Plus, users can add performance upgrades or options.

With the unveiling of Modservice, consumers now have the choice of either buying a new Modbook or choosing the Bring Your Own ‘Book (BYOB) option and sending OWC their own existing Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook for OWC’s Modservice.

MacBook owners that want to have their computer converted into a Modbook can also have OWC upgrade the base features of their MacBook for greater performance and capabilities and pay for the upgrade and no additional service cost.

Memory upgrades up to 4.0GB start at $60.00; higher capacity and/or faster internal hard drives up to 500GB start at $99; faster DVD and CD burning can be acquired with a new SuperDrive; and a Hard Drive Data Transfer option is offered so customer data can be backed-up and reloaded after the Modbook conversion is completed.

OWC offers a full three-year warranty option that extends the Modservice conversion one year warranty term. Priced at $349, OWC covers the original MacBook components,  any customer-selected upgrades installed by OWC at the time of modification,  and the tablet components.

Modservice pre-ordering is available immediately, with prices starting at $1,299.99.
