Point Cloud Inspection Receives An Update

Version 8.3 of the point cloud-based inspection software from Metris (Leuven, Belgium; metris.com) focuses on productivity increases and offers full part-to-CAD inspection starting from point cloud data or meshes captured by CMM-based or hand-held scanning solutions.

Focus Inspection 8.3 now handles larger point cloud sizes up to 90 million points. The user can also opt to speed up the part-to-CAD inspection further by converting the nominal CAD model into a more compact mesh model, enabling selection between maximum accuracy or maximum processing performance.

Features have been added for automotive sheet metal and body inspection, including improved gap-and-flush analysis. The output of inspection results in DMIS format better integrates point cloud inspection within the existing quality control processes.
