Portable Workstations Use NVIDIA's Quadro 6000

By integrating new NVIDIA Corp.‘s (Santa Clara, CA) Quadro 6000 graphics processing unit (GPU) from PNY Technologies (Parsippany, NJ) into its line of portable workstations and dense computing rackmount servers,  NextComputing (Nashua, NH) says that it empowers users in markets such as CAD,  remote video production, military simulation and training, as well as oil and gas data visualization with the computational visualization capabilities of NVIDIA Quadro pro graphics.

The NVIDIA Quadro 6000 by PNY is the latest of NVIDIA’s professional-class GPUs built on the NVIDIA Fermi architecture. According to NVIDIA, the hardware and software incorporated into the Quadro 6000 can drive an visual supercomputing platform capable of handling such advanced applications as stereoscopic 3D, scalable visualization, and 3D high-definition broadcasting. The Quadro 6000 features a total of 448 NVIDIA CUDA processing cores and a 6GB frame buffer with GDDR5 ECC RAM. It is rated at 1.3 billion triangles per second in raw performance.

NextComputing describes itself as producing high-performance portable systems that combine workstation-class performance with laptop-like mobility for users who need to run demanding applications in the field. Its Radius portable workstations series can house an Intel Core i7 processor, up to 24GB RAM, multiple hard drives with RAID, and now the NVIDIA Quadro 6000. Other units from the company, such as the NextDimension series and Vigor rugged portables, are available in both commercial and military rugged form-factors.
