PTC Adds Internet of Things to FIRST Robotics

The company is donating ThingWorx software to all participating teams this season.

PTC has stated that it is donating Thingworx software to all FIRST robotics teams this season. The platform will be used to create an application that displays data collected by sensors. This data can inform teams how the robot is performing and alert of any possible adjustments.

The company is also donating PTC Creo, Mathcad and Windchill software. By being able to place sensors on the robots and gather usable data, teams can implement Internet of Things (IoT) technology into their designs.

“Manufacturers are addressing the new IoT business model by building smart, connected products and need to hire people with these specific skills to remain competitive,” said John Stuart, senior vice president, Global Education, PTC. “PTC is excited to work with FIRST to develop the IoT engineers and innovators of tomorrow. We’re proud to continue our support of FIRST and we wish the best for all the teams that participate in this year’s competition.”
