Quickparts (Atlanta,GA)  recently completed a project with RedXDefense that was featured on CBS television series.

On Monday, April 28th,  Quickparts’ manufactured parts were featured in RedXDefense’s portable explosives detection system, the XPAK, which debuted on CSI: MIAMI. In this episode, entitled “Tunnel Vision,” the show’s main characters used the XPAK to help solve a crime. Viewers were made a part of the explosives detection as it occurred by being able to see inside the XPAK.

Besides being the mainstay of the CSI episode, the XPAK is currently deployed with the military and homeland security. The product uses proprietary detection ink to detect trace amounts of explosives very quickly and inexpensively. Originally developed and exclusively licensed from University of California, San Diego, the technology promises many potential uses,  including the detection of trace explosives on fingerprints left by someone who has handled explosives and the detection of trace explosives on objects or vehicles.

It is anticipated that the product will become a useful aid in the fight against terrorism. By detecting trace amounts of explosives on people, packages, vehicles, and other surfaces, the XPAK serves as a useful tool for gathering evidence on bomb-making facilities and bomb-makers.
