Siemens PLM Software (Plano, TX), a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services,  and IMSI/Design LLC announced the integration and release of the D-Cubed 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager (2D DCM) parametric design engine in IMSI/Design’s IDX Variable Constraint System plug-in for AutoCAD software.

According to Bob Mayer, CEO at IMSI/Design, the 2D CDM technology from Siemens PLM Software is the same parametric design engine used by most of the world’s major CAD systems. Highly compatible with the AutoCAD ObjectARX programming environment, the software is ideal for the parametric plug-in to AutoCAD.

Before now, AutoCAD users have not had the benefits of 2D DCM based parametric design. The IDX Variable Constraint System plug-in from IMSI makes it possible for users to choose if and when they want to use the parametric design approach. This extends the possibilities for an AutoCAD model in that design intent can now be built into it, allowing users to evaluate variations, and create part families, update entire drawings after redlining comments more quickly, and design and animate kinematic mechanisms.

The 2D DCM has been under continuous development since 1989 and is the most widely used parametric design engine in the CAD industry, according to the press release. All of Siemens’ PLM Components offer flexible licensing arrangements that enable any organization to add advanced functionality to any of their applications quickly and economically.
