Siemens Releases Shipbuilding Catalyst to Enhance PLM ROI

Solution includes best practice guides, templates, and software to help shipbuilders rapidly deploy PLM.

Siemens announced its Shipbuilding Catalyst, aimed at helping accelerate the deployment of product lifecycle management (PLM) software. Using a pre-packaged combination of industry-specific best practice guides, templates and tailored software, the Shipbuilding Catalyst integrates and synchronizes shipbuilding operations, including members of the supplier network and third-party service providers. It is one of Siemens’ Industry Catalyst Series offerings announced last year.

“Siemens’ Shipbuilding Catalyst represents a transformational technology that enables shipyards to shorten their time-to-value and boost their return on investment,” said John MacKrell, vice president, CIMdata. “By improving total enterprise productivity, reducing cycle times and lowering the total cost of ownership of future fleets, Siemens shipbuilding solution can help change the way leading shipyards design, produce and sustain the next generation of advanced ships.”

“The Shipbuilding Catalyst extends our catalyst strategy announced late last year to help increase PLM value and accelerate return on investment,” said Steven Bashada, senior vice president, industry strategy, Siemens PLM Software. “This is a pivotal time for the shipbuilding industry as shipbuilders respond to the demand for more cost-competitive ships with better performance and reliability. Siemens’ holistic shipbuilding solution is focused on providing shipbuilders a competitive edge to sustain growth and improve performance.”

The Shipbuilding Catalyst is a set of preconfigured elements with deployment guides and implementation best practices for the shipbuilding industry. It addresses typical tasks and use cases that arise during a ship’s lifecycle, from receipt of inquiry to design, construction, operations and maintenance to decommissioning or demolition. According to the company, it complements Siemens’ shipbuilding solution, which focuses on supporting five key process areas that integrate and optimize program and product management, design and engineering, ship construction, supply chain management, and ship service and support.
