Silicon Mechanics Servers Feature Intel Solid-State Drive 910 Series

Silicon Mechanics now offers servers that utilize the Intel Solid-State Drive 910 Series. The 910 Series, optimized for enterprise applications, offers high-performance storage with increased endurance, easy deployment, and a lower price than similar PCI-based SSDs, the company says.

The Intel Solid-State Drive 910 Series’ high endurance rating represents a 30x increase over Intel MLC -based SSDs, combining High Endurance Technology (HET) multi-level cell (MLC) Intel NAND flash memory with Intel’s NAND management firmware. Intel warrants the 910 Series SSDs for 10 full drive writes per day for five years.

In addition, the PCI-based form factor enables easier deployment and high throughput, with 60% greater sequential read performance and 20x greater random write performance than comparable models, the company says. The 910 Series SSD offers throughput of up to 2 gigabytes per second (GB/s) sustained sequential reads and 1GB/s sequential writes.

“For cost-conscious users in virtualization, cloud computing, or high-performance computing applications, the Intel Solid-State Drive 910 Series is an affordable and energy-efficient solution for achieving superior I/O capabilities,” said Michael Fein, director of sales at Silicon Mechanics. “This series brings PCIe-based SSDs into a much more reasonable price band.”

The 910 Series will be available on Storform and select Rackform servers from Silicon Mechanics.
