Velocity Micro has announced the immediate availability of a six-core, 12-thread, single processor desktop PC. Powered by the Intel Core i7-980X, desktops begin at $2,825.

“With the launch of the Core i7-980X, Intel has given us the means to create a whole new level of benchmark-crushing, ultra-performance PCs,” says Velocity Micro Vice President Chip Lowell.

Building on Nehalem architecture, the i7-980X allows Velocity Micro to boost performance up to 40% on applications that use the i7-980X’s 12 hyperthreaded virtual cores, according to the company.
