By DE Editors

High-performance enterprise computing system provider Appro International, Inc. (Milpitas, CA; appro.com) describes its new Appro XtremeWorkstation as designed to handle compute- and memory-intensive technical workloads such as those typically encountered by MCAD, CAE, petroleum visualization, automotive, aerospace, electronic design, DCC, 3D modeling, and CAD professionals.

When equipped with 128GB of memory, the XtremeWorkstation provides more than four times the graphics, processor, and memory bandwidth of its predecessors. Additionally, compared to prior models, it offers memory latency that is 25 percent lower and twice the compute power.

A mid- to high-end x86 workstation, the Appro XtremeWorkstation comes with up to 128GB of DDR2 memory and from two to four AMD Opteron 8000 series processors. The XtremeWorkstation is equipped with two full-length PCI-Express x16 slots for high-end graphics cards, such as the NVIDIA Quadro FX4500 X2 or the NVIDIA Quadro FX5500. Additional slots include one half-length PCI-Express x4 bus in a x16 connector slot, two half-length PCI-X 64-bit 133/100/ 66MHz slots, and one full-length PCI-X 64-bit 133/100/66MHz slot.

The XtremeWorkstation can be outfitted with up to 6.0 terabytes (TB) SATA or 2.4TB SAS hot-swappable drives. It supports one 3.5-inch floppy and a pair of 5.25-inch external drive bays. Miscellaneous features include Dual Broadcom 5721 Gigabit network Interface controller, redundant power supplies, and three system-cooling fans.

The XtremeWorkstation supports Windows or Linux. For more information, visit appro.com.
