SolidWorks’ Official Stance on Direct Modeling

With Siemens unleashing Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology 2 and Autodesk promising to deliver Autodesk Inventor Fusion soon, direct modeling has become the talk of the town.

Like many others in the CAD community, I began wondering if SolidWorks is quietly working on incorporating more direct-modeling tools to its classic parametric software. So I asked the company’s press office for comment.

Today, I got the answer from SolidWorks’ chief Jeff Ray himself: “Direct Editing is not something our customers are asking us for,” he responded via email.

In less than a week, I’ll be at PTC’ World User event in Orlando, Florida. This, I hope, will give me a chance to report on Pro/ENGINEER’s future with direct modeling.
