Dassault, bluenove Group Team Up On Open Innovation

The goal is to provide companies the tools to bring ideas into reality.

Open innovation, the concept of tapping into the collective intelligence and creativity of a broader ecosystem, is gaining traction in companies thanks to the rise of the Internet and a more collaborative mindset. Yet just because a company is open to cultivating ideas beyond traditional organizational boundaries doesn’t mean the process is easy to put into play.

bluenove Group, an open innovation consultancy, is partnering with Dassault Systèmes to try to address that complexity. The pair are promising to sync up their respective resources — in this case, Dassault Systèmes’ Social Ideation open innovation management solution based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and its Design Studio experience thinking methodology coupled with bluenove’s consulting chops in delivering methods and software supporting collective intelligence.

The goal is to help companies effectively bridge the gap between generating ideas and transforming them into tangible product experiences — in other words, providing them with the tools to put their money where their mouth is given the relative disruptive nature of open innovation.

“Open innovation is about developing a new culture and state of mind where daring telling the world ‘what you don’t know how to do’ becomes a way to generate more disruptive innovation through proactive relationships with players from other industries,” noted Martin Duval, president and COO at bluenove Group.

Dassault’s 3D EXPERIENCE platform, and in particular the Social Ideation capabilities, provide “end to end” management of the innovation process, including collaborative market watch, social analysis by communities and portfolio management, Duval says. “This platform impacts the way companies manage their innovation processes as it merges more deeply the early phase of the emergence of new ideas with the marketing process to test and experiment with them,” Duval explains. “Companies have to learn how to manage faster processes from ideation to product launch and mix innovation, design and marketing skills.”

bluenove plans to recommend the Dassault 3D EXPERIENCE platform to its customers looking for software tools to boost and support their open innovation processes and where a simple social network or idea management systems isn’t sufficient. The company is also collaborating with Dassault’s Design Studio consulting group to provide open innovation services and training via a series of co-sponsored workshops.

While open innovation is taking root in a variety of industries, including food, transportation, health and aerospace, the practice is particularly well suited to the high-tech industry, which is highly sensitive to shorter innovation cycles and the need to create competitive advantage through speed, Duval says.

The Dassault 3D EXPERIENCE Social Ideation platform, led by Dassault’s high-tech industry group, is the first cloud-based open innovation management solution that can be leveraged by high-tech companies and other players to engage outside collaborators in universities, research centers, suppliers and clients, according to Dassault officials. The platform, based on social applications adapted to product design, is designed to facilitate inspiration, help identify the best idea and make social collaboration more efficient.
