STAR-CCM+ v7.02 with Overmesh and Replay Option

 

CD-adapco is updating its STAR-CCM+ engineering simulation package. In v7.02, set to release at the end of February, the company expands its 3D CAD reading features. The software now imports tessellated formats, along with PLMXML data. Other improvements in CAD interaction includes curvature retention in hole fillings, new gradients, and line projection. A new meshing technology introduced in the version lets you generate very thick polyhedral prism layers. The software also lets you perform thermal coupling of one STAR-CCM+ simulation to another.

With the overset meshes introduced in this version, you can place one mesh on top of another, avoiding the need to remesh or remorph. The company believes the new mesh option will be especially useful in studying bodies with extreme ranges of movements, configuration changes, and part replacement.

The Solid Shell element available in this version lets you simulate thin solids that are subjected to in-plane thermal conductivity. To deal with the explosion of simulation data and the headaches associated with archiving and managing it, STAR-CCM+ v7.02 gives you the option to record and compare results from different configurations, or different meshes, and animate results over time (for transient analysis). According to the company’s presentation, “Results from multiple simulations may be recorded in a single simulation history file, and easily replayed.”
